One of the first questions we get asked after we tell people we run our online business together at home is…
“How do you work together every single day without killing each other.”
“Some days it’s tough,” we always reply honestly. 🙂
We absolutely LOVE working together and sharing life every day… but it’s not all sunshine and roses.
We are just like other couples.
We have differences of opinion, conflict, and quarrels from time to time.
Those problems are all magnified when you not only live together as a family but you “go to work” together every day.
However, our problems rarely boil over into a major fight.
Jocelyn and I have a set of systems in place that helps us manage our relationship in a healthy and productive way.
Without these systems, we would never be able to have such an awesome marriage or successful business.
In today’s podcast, we are going to give you 6 tips for working with your partner.
We will tell you…
1) How to  “Wake up and break-up” (props to Jill and Josh Stanton for this one)
2) Why “doing your own thing” is the best thing you can do for your couple-preneur business
3) The single most important tip for getting on the same page with your partner (in life and business)
4) Exactly how to capitalize on each other’s strengths
5) How to never go to bed mad (and stay off the couch for good)
6) How to dream big and make those dreams come true…together!
Running an online business with your partner can be an incredibly rewarding experience, but it also comes with its own unique bumps in the road from time to time.
Hopefully, this podcast will help you and yours get on the same page and start pursuing your dreams together today!
Special Bonus:  The Flipped Lifestyle Goal Setting Guide!
Jocelyn had a GREAT idea during the podcast!
A couple years ago, right before our online business really took off, we went out to eat without the kids. Â We sat down together over a great meal and wrote down a series of goals and dreams.
We set long-term goals and dreams for what we wanted to accomplish in 5 years.
Then based on those long-term goals and dreams, we set short-term objectives for the things we needed to do yearly to achieve our long-term dreams.
Next, we wrote down all the things we needed to do right now to take our first steps toward financial freedom and quitting our “9 to 5” jobs for good.
The results were amazing.
We accomplished our goals in half the time, and now we are setting new bigger goals for the future!
We want to help you and your partner do the same!

We take you step by step through the questions we asked ourselves that led to the success we have achieved today.
Once you go through the guide, come back and share your goals and dreams in the comments for this podcast!
The Flipped Lifestyle community will be here to cheer you on as you chase those dreams!

I am really excited about you guys. I have been struggling to get my product up and running, and I am eating up your podcasts. My wife and I want to work together but we just do things so differently and have different visions.
Question: We were raised to work a job (I’m a cop, she’s a teacher), I see the potential in info products, she just wants to be a teacher. Any advice?
Jocelyn Sams says
Hi Glen! We actually just recorded a podcast about how to get your spouse on board. Look for it to come out next week! 🙂
Glen says
My dream is to launch my child safety program online so parents don’t live in fear, kids become empowered, and we never have to hear another story about a missing child.
Shane Sams says
Chase that dream brother! As a father of two small kids, I know I’d love to see something like that!
Jerry Stumpf says
Very creative and constructive use of your time. Thank you for sharing your Goal Setting Guide and sharing how you get to your goals.
You are setting a great trend for many other couples and carving out a good living along the way!
The can’t miss moments were heart warming.

Just got through the Goal Setting Guide with my husband. We are so different in how we think and do. We’ve NEVER been able to get through an exercise like this, but we stayed calm and connected — letting each other be free to express our thoughts without judgment or criticism. Your setup to give each of us a chance to talk and then work together played a HUGE part in that dialogue being successful. My hubby is a reluctant bird who holds onto some pretty limiting beliefs, but excited to see him open up to this possibility! I am grateful for the positive influence I know you guys can be for both of us as partners because we’ve just not been good at working together on things like this and my deep prayer is for this to be an answer to a consistent prayer for unity in our life, work and marriage. 🙂
Per your assignment, sharing our dreams/short term goals we hope to achieve in the next 12 months.
1. Earn cash to purchase Jerry a new vehicle (we’re currently a one car family).
2. Replace Jerry’s income so he can stop working as an Asst Mgr at Dominos.
3. Reduce my work hours from 80 to 30 so that I can better care for myself and family. I want my family to get the best parts of me first.
Shane Sams says
Awesome Jessica! If it makes you feel any better, our goal setting sessions are not always easy talks over tea and coffee lol. We made the guide to provide structure to PREVENT as much conflict as possible haha. Glad it helped!
Linda Pruitt says
Just finished the goal setting exercise. It is both easier and harder for me because I am single. I already work a virtual job from home for last 10 years. I hate it. I am burned out and need a change. Not to mention, I make less than minimum wage doing it most of the time! It is important to me to be free to travel around in my RV and conduct business from anywhere in the country. I’ve been contemplating doing an online business for about the last 2-3 years. I enjoy both research and writing. I am hoping the digital project will be sort of a massive book report. My goals for within 5 yrs include: an annual income of 200k, bringing my weight to acceptable normal standards, building a viable online business that will allow me to travel. My digital product vision involves creating an all in one place educational referencemanuel for alterrnative modalities to cope with diabetes. Everyone pushs their own product/theory. I have spent thousands of hours over the years, researching online, reading, learning and generally being my own guinna pig. Wouldn’t it be a time saver for confused people to be able to see the many, many choices they have in how they address their diabetes?
Shane Sams says
I think that sounds like a great idea Linda! You just have to verify people are searching for your topic, and that you use the same language they do to find information in that space.
Derek says
Thank you for providing the guide on setting goals; while I am becoming more convinced that this (online business) is not something I will necessarily ever do together with my wife (learned a lot in your next podcast on getting your spouse on board), I do still think the process of setting goals together may at least give us a better appreciation for where each is coming from.
Mariko says
Hi Shane and Jocelyn! First time commenting here. I’ve just completed your exercise and feel so motivated. My goal is to complete my digital product (Japanese alphabet learning video) and start selling by May 24th (about a month from now!). I’ve heard all your podcasts and thanks to your most recent episode I’m ready to let go of my perfection ideals and just GO WITH IT! Thanks for giving me that momentum. Jocelyn, I am going to strive to be as disciplined and laser-focused as you are 🙂 I am going to do my best so that one day not long from now I can send you my first “receipt of payment” from my customer to go up on your wall!
Much love from Japan

I just started going through the Flipped Lifestyle course this week. After listening to podcasts and researching online business daily for the past few months, I am ecstatic to have found something like this to give me a jump-start and a step by step process to follow. This is great and I’m already learning so much! First assignment is goal setting , and these are the big-rocks for my wife and I in terms of goals:
1. Replace my income to give me time freedom. I am a high school softball coach and college advisor, so I work a lot of nights.
2. Generate enough income to move forward with adoption processes without the cost being what prevents us from doing so.
3. Purchase a larger home for our (Lord willing) growing family. We currently have 2 children, but desire more. Long story, but we have gone through a lot of heartbreak in the past 18 months on this journey to having another child.
Thank you Shane and Jocelyn for this course. I’m excited to keep moving forward!
Deanna Shanti says
We are excited to be starting this course. We just completed the Goal Setting exercise and we set our goals discovered fears that could inhibit us. We have identified them and set actions in motion to eliminate their consequences.
1. Working together in our new home in California.
2. Growing our online business to six figures within the first year.
3. Sharing love and light and fun with each other creating from a loving and fun space.
Brian Andrew Stephens says
My wife and I are completely different. She’s an EXTREME extrovert and I’m an introvert. She is a big mess and I’m a neat freak. Completely different. I had to do the goal setting on my own but when I start producing she’ll be on board. For now here are the things I want over the next year.
So I just went through the “goal setting guide”. I’ve got a few goals I can nail down.
1. I want to work full time from home. Quit my day job.
2. I want know I would be comfortable to make $4000 per month online.
3. I want to get my wife a new car. I want to take her on a second honeymoon. We need this after 16 years.
Bonus goal: I want one day a week where there is no agenda. Just be with the kids, the wife and God. No planning or getting on the computer at all. I like to be present in the moment.
