Story Notes
Dr. Luke Hobson is a self-proclaimed “learning nerd.” Luke started off his career as a lab assistant, worked his way up to an academic advisor, and now he is at MIT where he is an instructional designer. Basically, Luke is trained in learning sciences and how people learn online. That means he works with professors, instructional teachers and he uses what he knows to put that informed in a well-designed online course.
In 2019, he made it his mission to network with other instructional designers. That’s where he realized the biggest thing among them all was they don’t have time to teach themselves the right resources. Luke was sending people to other places and they would come back saying they ending something different or better.
After listening to us talk about the power of a membership site he knew that’s exactly what needed to create!
What is the problem you’re solving?
The problem that Luke solves is actually not instructional design. The problem he solves for people who need instructional design is that they do not have the time to do the latest research, get the updated lessons, or anything like that. He acts almost as professional development. That is the actual problem he is solving: Luke is the condensed version of everything they need.
What’s your biggest hang-up?
Luke’s biggest fear right now is why he’s been getting unsubscribes after sending out emails. What was the problem? He wasn’t getting enough people unsubscribing. Yes – he needed to send out more emails like we told him. Guess what? He started getting more subscribers and he net increased!
What are your next steps?
Luke wants to focus on a couple things her his next steps:
- Marketing his membership.
- Moving his lead magnet up on his website (drlukehobson.com).
- He needs to move pop-ups to someone on their way off his site inside of interrupting them in the middle of something.
- Moving hero posts to a specific place.
- He needs to move the subscribe area and content to the top of his webpages.
- Creating a guesting strategy.
