We have had a lot of questions lately on Twitter’s new service Periscope.tv
- What is Periscope?
- How does Periscope work?
- Why should I use Periscope?
Instead of answering these questions about Periscope.tv on the podcast, We thought we would do a catch all blog post to give you the scoop on the hottest social media tool online today.
We are HUGE fans of Periscope. It’s a game changer. Let’s see what it is all about!
What is Periscope?
Periscope.tv (scope for short) is one of the new live video streaming sites like meercat.
Basically these are apps that you put on your iPhone, iPad or android device that allow you to do live video streaming from anywhere in the world at any time.
You can literally experience something through someone else’s eyes.
You can also broadcast what you are doing live to the world so others can enjoy it too!
It is a jarring and amazing experience to broadcast on periscope.
It’s fun and addictive, not just watching but also broadcasting yourself.
How does Periscope work?
It’s kind of like live internet television.
First you have to download the Periscope.tv app onto your device. Once you open it up you can just connect it to your twitter account and start watching Periscope live streaming broadcasts from around the world!
Periscope is easier, faster, and simpler than a Google hangout, and unlike hangouts Periscope is with you everywhere you go.
It has a Twitter vibe to it; short way to consume video, real time, happening now.
Anyone can use Periscope.tv; all you need is a phone or tablet and an internet connection. The app is free.
It is SUPER easy. The barrier to entry for Periscope is so much lower than video on any other platform. You can be broadcasting in literally 5 minutes with zero technical know how.
Why should I use Periscope?
Video is powerful.
Whether it is how to videos on YouTube, or monthly webinars to market your products; video is dominating the internet marketing world right now.
Periscope.tv is the evolution of video marketing. You can now conduct a sales webinar, instructional video, or a simple AMA (ask me anything) Q&A to your followers and fans at any time with zero set up.
While the service is in it’s infancy, we have already found it to be one of the most intimate and personal ways to communicate with our audience.
With Periscope you can command an audience from around the world at any time of the day or night. You could literally turn your life experiences and down time into money making opportunities.
Imagine an impromptu webinar talking about your niche, and at the end you sell your product. Powerful. Flash sales based on where you are and what you are doing. Or just taking questions from leads.
You can use Periscope to serve your audience better, to connect with them on a deeper level and let them have a look into your life that has never been possible before.
Connecting with your audience on a personal level is the most critical component to a successful online business and brand.
There has never been a tool that does this as effectively as Periscope seems to do.
There is a reason Periscope.tv is exploding in popularity.
Jump on the bandwagon.
Six month from now you don’t want to be the one watching Periscope, you want to be the one being watched!

Wow. What an experience. I just watched your Q&A from the car. Awesome. I got to see everything. It was almost like being there. Imagine, wearing a brace because you type too much. I may have to wear one in the future. LOL.
Hi Shane, Hi Jocelyn. Such beautiful children. I want to play mindcraft too, but I better learn and practice, since I never played before. Periscope is going to be a great tool far communicating, with friends, and family, for teachers and students, and especially for business. Sorry that I was later for this Periscope Q&A, but I will be ready for the next one. SEE YOU GUYS later. Thanks for the experience. Rene

Caught the tale end of y\’alls recent periscope. Have been toying around with it. I\’m wondering…. do you guys alert us (through email or twitter, maybe?) that you\’ll be hosting a periscope at a certain time? So far, I\’ve caught live periscopes only by happenstance. Anxious to see how profitable this new social media \”shiny object\” proves to be for everyone. I\’m typically a slow adopter when it comes to new social media channels, but love the live interaction of Periscope. We\’ll see… =)
