Jocelyn and I recently spent a week in the Philippines with Chris Ducker at his Tropical Think Tank live event.
This is a boutique, small, intimate live event with high level speakers and participants.

Today’s speaker review is about Matthew Kimberley
He trains sales teams and helps very small personality-led businesses get more customers.
He is a funny, witty, gracious man. He is also a great family man who adores his kids.
It’s always a bonus when you meet an expert in his field of business who is also a good human being!
The big takeaway from Matthew Kimberley
I literally took two pages of notes during Matthew’s presentation.
It was a wealth of information on how to literally “book yourself solid” to the point you can’t handle any more clients.
However, one point stood out above all the rest: When you are in online business, you have to stand for something or no one will pay attention!”
Matthew made the point that the online marketers who really stand out, who really make BIG things happen are the ones who pick a side.
People who pick a side are interesting. You either love what they say, or hate what they say, there is no in between.
This is similar to what Jocelyn always says to our Flip Your Life members “If you try to sell to everybody, you will end up selling to nobody.”
As hard as it is to believe, you don’t want to attract everyone online.
You want to attract your best customers, your avatar, and then you want to drive everyone else away.
You want to drive away bad customers, people who are not your avatar, and people who disagree with your message.
You don’t want them because they are not going to spend money on your products, if they do buy they will ask for refunds or they will cause you pain, misery and grief by complaining about the products they bought.
Taking a side makes sure your customer aligns with your product offering. It makes sure you are serving the person you described in your Avatar. It keeps hassles down, and profits up!
Before Matthew’s presentation at Tropical Think Tank, I can see how that “don’t rock the boat, we’ll take everyone” mentality had been creeping into our brands.
Not any more. We now have fine tuned our avatars and are reaching out to THOSE PEOPLE ONLY online.
We don’t want mud on the wall, we want the right person at the right time with the right product. Period.
Matthew had an awesome quote that summed up this philosophy for differentiating oneself online: “People who stand for something are both magnetic AND repellent.”
Take a stand for something in your online business.
You will draw in good customers like a magnet who WANT what you are selling. And you will REPEL the bad customers, who were not going to buy from you anyway.
Be clear in your message, your sales copy should be clear what you offer so that your customers know they are aligned with your beliefs and offerings.
Take a stand, and watch your business grow.
