Let’s dive into this week’s question!
JOCELYN: Hey y’all, you’re listening to Q&A with S&J.
SHANE: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast, where life always comes before work. We’re your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let’s get started.
What’s going on guys? Welcome back to another Q&A with S&J mini podcast where we answer your questions on our podcast twice a week. I wanted to plug something here real quick. We are also going to open a mail bag. We’re having trouble getting to all of these questions because it does take a little time to record, edit, and do all of these things to get them online like in the iTunes and things like that. We’re going to actually start answering some of the questions that you submit to us on a mail bag blog post where we can type out a quick answer or we can quickly do a screen capture to record a tutorial and hopefully, those will be coming out a couple of times a week.
Make sure you are checking back to the blog every day. Don’t just check on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday when our podcast comes out. Make sure you’re checking on the other days because we’re going to start answering even more of your questions online because we have so many that we just want to make sure we get to as many people as possible and get those questions answered.
Today’s question on the podcast comes from Adrianne and she writes writes:
“My question is, how do I make a bundle image like you have on your lesson plan options page? You have three options side by side and each one has its own “buy it now” button. Should I hire someone to do this? I love the way it looks. It would fit perfectly with what I want to do and sell online. I’m moving over to Easy Digital Downloads plug in over the break and I just wanted to incorporate something similar to that. Thanks guys. You rock.”
JOCELYN: All right, thanks so much for your question and in case you’re wondering, we will put some links to what Adrianne is talking about on my Elementary Librarian page, the lesson plan options, and also a link to the Easy Digital Downloads plug-in.
SHANE: You can also see exactly how we do that. We have the same bundle set up on FlippedLifestyle.com/FlipYourLife and when you click over to the pricing options, you can see how we list our bundled options side by side there.
JOCELYN: All right. So I’d like to tell you that there’s a real simple answer to this question but there actually is not. The technical answer to this question is the way that you do this is that you create tables in HTML and you style them using CSS.
SHANE: Which is all programmer speak so…
JOCELYN: And so if that is as foreign of a language as it is to me, you probably will need to hire somebody to do this, and that’s actually what I did on both of these sites.
SHANE: This kind of touches on a deeper question is when should you try to do something by yourself in your online business and when should you hire an expert. Now, Jocelyn and I both do understand HTML and CSS a little bit. We kind of know like how it works but by no means are we experts or coders by any stretch of the imagination.
It would be laughable for us to try to figure out how to do some of the things that we do on our website. It would take us hours and hours. Could we do it, yes, but wouldn’t it be better for us to just hire someone and focus those 12 hours that it would take us to create that page, we can hire someone who can probably do it in 30 minutes to an hour. We just pay them. It might cost you $25-$50 to get someone to do that for you and then we can take that 12 hours we would have spent on our website creating content, creating products, creating more things that grow our brand than us sitting there and trying to do all the technical stuff.
The long story short here is whenever you get stuck on something or whenever you see something you really like and you think, “Oh man, that’s really complicated. I could probably do it but it’s going to take forever,” go to oDesk, Elance, Fiverr.com. Find someone that you can hire.
Pay the experts to do it and it’s hard sometimes starting out because I know a lot of you out there, you know, we did not have a big budget when we first started. We were a family. We have limited funds available to us. We kind of pinched every penny and counted every dime, but when it came down to it toward the end, I wished that we had just said, “Okay, let’s not go to the movies, save the $50. We’ll take the $50 and we’ll go hire someone to create the sales page for us so that we can move on and do something faster in our online business.” You may have to sacrifice something to do it but it’s a lot better to go and let the experts be experts in what they do while you are being an expert on what you do.
JOCELYN: All right, I hope that helps, hope that answers your question. if you have a question for us, you can head on over to FlippedLifestyle.com/QASJ and we will get to it just as soon as we can.
SHANE: Until next time. Thank you guys so much for being awesome. Catch you on the flipside.

Hi Guys, thank you so much for the great information you continually provide! I love it!
Your advice here is absolutely spot on, but it’s still something me & my ‘I can do everything myself’ complex wrestle over regularly. Spending a little money to save time for more important things is exactly what we should all be doing, so I’ll try to keep this front & centre next time I’m up against a problem like this.
Also something to note for your WordPress listeners, there are some easy to use, free pricing table plugins that could help with this scenario. Such as https://wordpress.org/plugins/dk-pricr-responsive-pricing-table/screenshots/ (I know it goes against the theme of the podcast, but as long as they actually are simple it might not hurt?! 😉 Anyway, might suit some people’s needs.
Thanks for the great advice, & keep it coming!!
