What does it take to attract people and get them to pay you for what you offer? How do you market yourself online?
Let’s find out in this episode with our guest Neil & Kristen Winking.
They are a couple working on transitioning their experiences as wedding photography business owners to an online membership business model.
Neil & Kristen owned a wedding photography business for about 5 years. Kristen ran their business full time, while Neil continued with his full time job and helped out as much as he could. Their business was born from their love of photography, but what they didn’t expect were all of the back-end business responsibilities and the many, many hats that entrepreneurs wear to keep everything running smoothly.
In fact, it was quite a struggle for them in the beginning as they were learning, sometimes the hard way, how to build and grow their wedding photography business. They became pretty successful, but relocated at the end of 2015, and with that the business closed.
Once the family was settled in their new area, they just knew that they wanted to take their business online to allow them both the freedom and flexibility they need to spend more time with their 5 y/o son.
They launched Hobby2Pro, where they provide coaching service to other wedding photographers in order for them to build and grow their own wedding photography business, just like they did.
With their content and online infrastructure ready, they are faced with their biggest challenge: how do they market themselves?
What does it take to really attract people and get them to pay you for what you offer?
We’re going to talk about how to overcome that mental hurdle of “tooting your own horn” and tactics that can supplement your mindset shift to get more people in your doors.

Success Story of the Week:
Today’s success story from the Flip Your Life community forums comes from Sandra Chen.
The subject of her Success Story post’s says, “I averaged AUD 760 in profit in the midst of having a child and fighting breast cancer!”
Wow. This is one of those MASSIVELY inspirational success stories that absolutely brought tears to our eyes, blew our minds and just motivated and inspired us to take action because…
Sandra said, “I just did an online business profit chart from June to December 2017, and I was surprised to learn that I was able to earn AUD 760 on average per month. This year, I HARDLY worked on my online business. I focused a lot on my home piano teaching business, having just relocated to a brand new country and city of Melbourne, and trying to set some roots into the community. I spent much of the year pregnant, and shortly after childbirth grappled with a fresh diagnosis of Breast Cancer, and an intense chemotherapy schedule (ends March 2018) takes up lots of time that I could otherwise have worked on my Online Business.
ALL GLORY TO GOD!!!!
I’m so glad I sowed a lot into my online business in 2015 and 2016, particularly in 2016 when I created that e-book, built up that membership site and all its content, and basically kept them in maintenance mode the whole of 2017 when I could hardly work on the business at all.
Thanks to the Flip Your Life community for all of your amazing encouragement and suggestions. I’m so glad I didn’t back out of the FYL Community in 2017 when I felt like I was going to give up on online business altogether.”
So, that’s $600 a month! Sandra, that is just an amazing, inspirational story of perseverance in the face of obstacles. Moving to a new country, having a new baby, and then facing a diagnosis of cancer and STILL pushing forward, STILL fighting, STILL building your online business and creating an income of $600 a month… I can’t even explain how inspired we are and how proud of you we are and what an amazing example you are of what’s possible if you put your mind into it and don’t let anything stand in your way.
We would love to help you write the success story for your online business.

Can’t Miss Moment:
This week’s Can’t Miss Moment is kind of a weird one, it’s getting the kids’ passports.
We took the kids to the post office recently to get them some passports, because we were going to go out of the country and take them on amazing trips.
We’re planning to do more fun adventures in the future, and it’s just so surreal because the kids have been in more trips than Jocelyn and I have been in our entire youth. Our online business has opened multiple doors of opportunity, it’s wonderful and absolutely mind blowing that we get to experience these awesome events together as a family.

Joey says
One of my favourite episodes (especially becos I’m a hobbyist photographer)! I had a look at their website, but didn’t see any photo gallery/portfolio. I wonder it’s intentionally omitted because the website isn’t about photo coaching, but is about photo “business” coaching. I guess people want to learn from the best, so it might be a good idea to show your selected top images or talk more about your experience as a pro wedding photographer (e.g. have shot more than XXX weddings in my career) to convince people that they’re learning from the best. By the way, the website looks amazing (quite complete and ready)!
