Two years ago we set some HUGE goals.
And know they are all coming to pass! Because of our online business (and a ton of hard work), we are getting ready to:
- Drive a car that is not held together by duct tape (seriously, see the picture above)
- Pay off our student loans (for which we are still grateful or else we never would have met!)
- Get rid of our house payments (pay off your mortgage in two years? We are about to!)
- & Travel more (starting with Disneyworld!)
Listen to today’s show to see how we pulled all of this off selling digital products online!

JOCELYN: Hey Y’all. On today’s podcast, we are going to tell you how online business is helping us pay off bills and go to Disney World.
SHANE: Welcome to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast, where life always comes before work. We’re your hosts, Shane and Jocelyn Sams. Join us each week as we teach you how to flip your lifestyle upside down by selling stuff online. Are you ready for something different? All right, let’s get started.
Hey guys, welcome back to the Flipped Lifestyle podcast. It’s good to be back with you again this week. I’m Shane. Jocelyn is sitting right beside me as always.
JOCELYN: Hello.
SHANE: And we finally have our new office put together so we actually are working at our new desks and the room is even clean. So it’s just kind of a turning point in our online business where we actually have a space to work at.
We want to start this week’s podcast off with our iTunes review. We read an iTunes review every week and we also include URLs if you email us and let us know what your website is. We love reading these reviews because they just brighten our day and they really, really are good for our rankings in iTunes and they help us out. So thank you guys so much for the hundreds of people now that have left us iTunes reviews.
Today’s review comes from Stewart Crane and he says, “Great stuff! Five stars. Keeping it real is their motto and they do it better than everybody else, just straightforward tips and techniques on how to build an online business with the realness of people that could be your best friends. Fun and informative every time.”
That was an awesome review, Stewart. We really appreciate that. We love that you said, “Someone that could be your best friends” because we’re just normal people from Kentucky and we just really want to help families get online and see that there are possibilities outside of all the things that you’ve been taught growing up about how you have to work, how you have to live, and we just really, really appreciate that review.
JOCELYN: If you’re ever in Kentucky, Stewart, come on over. We’ll have some sweet tea. We can be best friends.
SHANE: We can hang out in the backyard and watch the leaves different colors in the fall.
JOCELYN: So on this week’s podcast, we just want to share some of our family’s financial goals and how we’re using online business income to reach those goals. We’ve talked about on our podcast several times and on our blog how we set goals every year for ourselves and for our business. So today we’re just going to share some of those with you, just where we are in reaching those and how we have gotten really to where we are today.
As Shane mentioned earlier, we’re just normal people. We’re people who have a mortgage. We have student loan debt. We have various personal debts that we owe to other people and so it’s not like we’re out here making millions of dollars and we don’t owe anything to anybody. That would be great, but it’s not true.
SHANE: Hopefully soon, we’ll see.
JOCELYN: But we’ve been blessed with a lot of success in our online business and it certainly did not come overnight. I think a lot of people have that misconception when they think about people in online business, but we have worked really hard and we have sacrificed a lot to get to where we are today. Thankfully, we are at a point now where we can start taking care of a few needs that we have and we hope that these goals that we’re going to share today, we hope they inspire you to set your own goals and start working toward them with the help of online business.
SHANE: And a lot of these goals were kind of the end game for us when we were looking over these because some of these are goals that we actually set a couple of years ago when we started our online business, like, these are the things that we wanted to do and after two and a half years of hard, hard work, we’re actually right now at the point where we’re starting to get close to being able to accomplish some of these things.
We thought that it would be great to not only show you our goals but also to kind of let you know that, yes, it is possible to get to the end of that tunnel. There is light at the end of the tunnel and like Dave Ramsey says, “It’s not just an oncoming train.” There is a way to get to that point if you’re persistent, if you stick to it and if you get started. You’ll never make it online if you never try it. So these are our goals and we’re going to go over, I think, what is it, four or five of them today maybe, something like that?
JOCELYN: Something like that.
SHANE: Yeah, something like that. We wrote a bunch down and we’re just going to try to get through them as fast as possible. All right, my first goal, this is one of my goals. This is the first goal we’re going to talk about today. My goal is to not drive vehicles that are held together by duct tape. I mean actual duct tape, like gray duct tape. I think there’s even some packing tape on the Nissan.
JOCELYN: Yeah.
SHANE: I was trying to make it clear so nobody could see that I had duct tape holding parts of my vehicle together.
JOCELYN: This is where someone might say, “You might be a redneck if…”
SHANE: Yeah, this is the “you might be a redneck if…” If you roll up beside me going to the gym this morning, you’re going to see a nice car held together by duct tape. We have a picture. We’re going to put a picture in the show notes of our Nissan. Our Nissan is old, very old vehicle.
JOCELYN: It is a 2000 Nissan Ultima. It is the first car that I ever purchased when I got my first real job out of college.
SHANE: And I think it has like 196,000 miles on it or something like that.
JOCELYN: Yeah, it has been going a long time but it is a very good car.
SHANE: Very good car, very rarely broke down. It’s more cosmetic problems with the car but it does have a lot of issues like the Nissan Ultima we got, the passenger window doesn’t really work, it doesn’t roll down and the driver’s side window didn’t work one time. We were pulling up to drive-thrus and opening the door and it’s like, “Can I have a couple of tacos?” And have to hand over the money to the thing. We got that one fixed but we just left the passenger side because we don’t want to waste money on it.
The air conditioner itself does not work. It has been out for years. It was Jocelyn’s car when we got married but I got stuck with the Nissan when the air broke because it kind of became the football practice car. So in the summertime, I will just keep rolling along hoping, “Man, I can’t wait until fall gets here so I don’t need my air conditioning.” It just cools up. The heater does work so it still works in the winter. We can drive the car when it’s cold.
There are just little things wrong with it. The little cloth stuff on the roof is falling down. I was driving Isaac home from swimming lessons the other day and I just wasn’t paying much attention. I heard him telling Anna, “Look at this. Look at this.” I didn’t really look what they were doing and then all of a sudden a few seconds later, Isaac goes, “Aaahh! My eyes! My eyes!” I was like, “What’s wrong? What’s wrong?” He said, “The yellow stuff from the roof is falling in my eyes.” There’s just crazy stuff and all the little stuff that’s going on with that. We drive a van too. We have a minivan.
JOCELYN: It’s a 2005.
SHANE: Yeah, it’s pretty old too. We’re the cool kids. We’ve got the minivan and the duct taped car but the van, it has got a little duct tape here and there too. The dipstick broke so I had to get in there and duct tape the dipstick back together. The driver side rear view mirror has got a big chunk taken out of where I’ve clipped something probably.
JOCELYN: On the garage door, yeah.
SHANE: The garage door. I clipped the garage door and it knocked half of the driver’s side rearview mirror.
JOCELYN: And like the back doors, we have the push button kind where you push the button and the door opens except that only works on one side. There’s a DVD stuck in the DVD player.
SHANE: Yeah, we can’t get the DVD. We got these things so our kids could watch movies and now we can’t get the DVD out. So a huge goal for us is to upgrade our vehicles. We love our cars. We are thankful. When we say our prayers, we are thankful we have two cars that get us to A to B and we are thankful God provides transportation for us, but we…
JOCELYN: We’re not sure how much longer they are going to get us from point A to B.
SHANE: Yeah, I’m not sure how much longer our prayers are going to fuel these things to keep them moving. So that’s one of our big goals right now. We’re starting to look at vehicles. We want to replace our car and our van. We just want to move forward with that and get a little bit more reliable transportation, something that looks a little bit nicer and something a little bit better for that.
So that was a big goal when we first wrote down our goals when we started our online businesses. We’re about to do that. We are probably by the end of the year at least going to buy one new vehicle and that was one of our huge goals and milestones when we started out our online business was to get new cars and we’re finally to that point.
JOCELYN: Another major goal that Shane and I have is to get our school loans paid off. We both have a pretty substantial amount of student loan debt. In fact, our student loan debt combined is about the same cost as our house mortgage, which is kind of painful. Thankfully, we do have not a whole lot of consumer debt like we don’t really use credit cards a lot and we never carry a balance on those. We are so thankful for our education. It’s not anything that we wish we didn’t go to college or anything like that. I mean, I have no regrets from doing that but we did accumulate a lot of student loan debt.
When I was an undergraduate, that’s when all of my student loan debt came in because my mom and dad, they worked so hard as I was growing up but my dad works for a cable company and my mom stayed at home with us. They really didn’t have the money to send us to college and pay for it all so we have to borrow, my sister and I both borrowed money for our college education. Shane, he had his undergraduate school paid for but he had to borrow some money for his graduate degree and so now we are paying that, a big large bill every single month and I really, really want to get rid of that.
SHANE: Yes, student loans, like one of the big things when we first started out when we went to the restaurant and wrote our goals down when we started our online business was that we didn’t want to owe anyone any money. We started looking at it. We were actually like Jocelyn said, we were in really good shape with credit cards. Somehow, we avoided that credit card trap, you know, the free T-shirt on every corner to give you a credit kind of bill as you go through in college.
We really wanted to get rid of any debt that we did have and that included things like our house, like cars, we didn’t want any car payments. We wanted to make sure we saved money for vehicles but the student loans are the ones that are really oppressive because you owe the government money. I mean, you have to pay it back. There’s no way you can’t bankrupt those things if something goes wrong. You have to get those paid off.
So one of our goals for this coming year, we wanted to not owe anyone anything. So one of our big goals is to get the student loan debt off our back, out of our way so we’re not paying those hundreds of dollars every month back on our loans that we want to pay our money back. It’s not like we want them to disappear. We are very grateful. I mean, if we have never gone to college, we never would have met. Do you like that? You like that I put that in there?
JOCELYN: Yes, that was great.
SHANE: Yeah that was pretty good. So I’m so thankful that that ability for Jocelyn to get those loans. Otherwise, I never would have found her or she wouldn’t have found me. That’s what I’m talking about. But anyway, we wanted to get those paid off this year so that we just really don’t have to worry about it because you can save money even when you have that but until you’re out of debt, you really can’t build any kind of wealth in your life and we know that that money could be going towards something else like maybe paying for our kids’ college so they don’t have to borrow the money. So that is a huge goal of ours is to get rid of our student debt this year.
JOCELYN: Our plan for paying off the student loans is sort of like the Dave Ramsey debt-snowball approach. We are going to start with the smallest one, go ahead and get it paid off and then work our way up to the larger student loans. So we can kind of see the end in sight at this point. It’s still a huge payment every month but if we can just get that off of what we’re looking at in our whole debt picture, that would just be so awesome.
SHANE: All right, the third thing that we’re going to really look at paying off and getting done this year is our house. We really want to fix up our house. One of the biggest sacrifices that Jocelyn and I made when we started our online business is we decided that we were going to sell our house. We had a wonderful house. We loved our old house. It was 2,400 square foot, big basement, we had a swimming pool, we love the neighborhood, just a great atmosphere to raise a family, just an awesome place, but when we started looking at the bills, we started saying, “Okay, what can we sacrifice? How can we get some big wins and free up money for our online business or if we decide to quit our jobs, how can we lower our monthly expenses so we don’t have to make as much each month?”
We started doing some things like canceling our cable and some other things like that to free up $100, $200 here and there but it really wasn’t making that big win. When we really started looking at everything, that mortgage, that house payment was the biggest expense, so we kind of just started throwing things back and forth and we said, “What if we could half our mortgage payment? Would that not let us quit our jobs quicker? Would that not let us pay off a house faster and be able to have financial freedom through our online business?”
So we actually did that. We put our house for sale and we said we’re going to get rid of our house and if we can sell our house, then we will have the freedom to be able to quit our job hopefully whenever we want to. So we sold our house. We moved into an awesome house. We love it. It’s a little bit older place. It only has 1,800 square foot so we did downsize a little bit but it still kind of has the same number of rooms. They are just a little bit smaller.
Our kids are going to have their own rooms. We’ve got a little office space. We’ve got a utility room. We’ve got the two-car garage. We’ve got a nice backyard for our kids to play in and it really is a very comfortable home. When we bought this place, it was half of our old house. We literally cut half of our mortgage out in just one fine swoop and that freed us up to be able to quit our jobs, be able to do our online business fulltime and make a living.
Now, this house did have some problems with it though. It needed a new roof. It’s not leaking or anything but we know that’s something that we’ve got to take care of right now.
JOCELYN: And we just got quotes for that and they are very painful.
SHANE: Very painful to get a new roof, by the way, if you’re doing that anytime soon. We’re about to put a new roof on. We’re going to put some new flooring down and paint inside, but mostly it’s just like the Nissan. It’s just cosmetic. Everything in the house is great and we’ve been very, very happy here. But now with the money that we’re making online, we’re going to do those repairs we’ve been putting off in this house, get it fixed up the way we wanted to look like. Jocelyn always says she feels like we’re living in a dorm room still.
JOCELYN: Yeah, we’re starting to buy like some matching furniture because all of our stuff was just kind of, I don’t know, it looks like we’re living back in college.
SHANE: It’s was like we just collected things as we went through the years, like none of our furniture, room to room it didn’t match and have we ever hung anything on a wall? I swear, we have no paintings or anything. We have nothing on our walls.
JOCELYN: I don’t know, very little. We have just been waiting to get our walls painted. We’ve been living here over a year and our walls still aren’t painted. That’s another thing that we’re going to be working on in the upcoming months.
To kind of branch off to what Shane was saying, I mean, a lot of times I think when people start thinking about how are we going to start building up wealth or how are we going to pay off debts, I think people go with the small things first a lot of times. Like, you’re going stop going to the Starbucks drive-thru or you’re going stop going on a vacation or something like that. We just, I don’t know, we went through that school of thought for a little while and it just really wasn’t for us. I felt like we were making some progress in getting rid of our debt but we weren’t really having a whole lot of fun.
To us, that’s really what life is all about. I mean, I don’t know if I’m going to be here in 10 years so I want to be able to enjoy my time. That’s not to say this like a morbid thing but it’s just something to think about. We don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow so let’s enjoy the day, let’s focus on a big win and see if we can make things happen that way.
SHANE: Yeah, so we got this house because it met our needs and then we could focus on living our lives because that’s what we wanted to do. So one of the things that we’re doing right now with our money from our online business is we’re fixing up our house. I’m sure you’re like us. You’ve put off a lot of repairs until you have the money kind of deal and online business has really made it possible for us to turn this into a very special place for our kids to live.
And then we’re going to set our sights once we get all of our home repairs we’ve been putting off, because we’re just waiting until we’ve made enough money to do that, we’re going to try and pay the house off as quickly as possible. If you borrow a $200,000 for your house, well if you pay that over a 30-year term, you’re going to end up paying like double. You’re going to end up actually paying out $400,000.
So Jocelyn and I have decided that we’re really going to make a push and work very, very hard over the next year or so and try to pay our house off and that way, we own our house, we save all that money in the long term, and then we just can kind of not only keep everything we make but we really have to work and make a lot less each month to pay our bills because all we got to do is keep the lights on, keep warm, and find something to eat. That’s what we’re really focused on right now with our home is fixing the repairs we’ve been putting off and we’re going to try and pay off our house.
JOCELYN: Our final goal and one that is really important to me is to travel more. I mentioned earlier about how, you know, my mom and I didn’t have a ton of money as I was growing up and we weren’t able to take a lot of the trips that some of our friends got to go on. I mean, we did do some things. We used to go camping a lot at the lake, which was some of the best times of my life. I still remember that just so vividly and we were able to do some smaller things like that, go to local amusement parks and things like that, but I was never able to go on a lot of long trips to exotic places or even places in the United States really.
That was something that was really important to me as we were talking about some goals that we have for our life. That’s where I differ sometimes from, I guess, the financial experts who talk about paying off debts and things like that. Most of the time, people are going to tell you, “Pay off all your debts first and then have a good time.” I don’t know. I don’t really disagree with that but I think that there’s a way to sort of do both.
So that was something that I really wanted to do. I didn’t want to postpone this trip taking and having good experiences with my children when they are young. If we waited until we paid off all our bills, I mean, our kids might be grown.
SHANE: We might never go anywhere at that point. When we started looking at our goals, what we really looked at was all right, we can live like poppers for 10 years and pull this off but then our kids are 10 and 11 years old. We missed their whole childhood or we can go by some of the traditional wisdom like reduce our cost of living and make more money. We can start online businesses and make more money and increase our income, and be able to take these trips and experience our children when they are actually small.
We can go and do the things like take them to places and have fun with them. That’s kind of how we approached the getting out of debt mojo. We didn’t want to postpone our life. I don’t want to wait until I’m 65 to have fun because I might be dead before then. That was terrible.
JOCELYN: I know. This has turned into a really morbid show.
SHANE: This is an awkward conversation but like we don’t want to put off our life. We want to live now and enjoy every day that God has blessed us with so we don’t have to worry about missing anything. That’s kind of the approach we took about this travel thing. We’re going on a lot of trips. We’ve been scheduling a lot of trips coming up in the next year.
JOCELYN: Yeah and so we’re going very shortly to Portland Maine. We’re going to a conference. It’s called The Agents of Change. We’re really excited about that because there are a lot of really big names in online business that will be there and we can’t wait to meet people and just go to Maine. I’ve never been there before.
SHANE: And we have never been able to go to these conferences until recently. Just as our business has been blessed and kind of grown, we’ve had enough money to kind of go to these trips and connect with people.
JOCELYN: And we’re also going to take our children to Disney in a few weeks, which is super exciting for me because I’ve never been to Disney myself so this is a really exciting time. Our children are 5 years old and 3 years old, and our daughter still thinks princesses are real. It’s just so awesome. I can’t wait and I’m so excited that online business has given us the chance to do this.
SHANE: And we actually wrote down some of our goals were to travel more in the United States as we’ve worked really hard and sacrificed, and all these things are kind of starting to bear fruit now in our online business. We’ve actually even expanded that now to travel all over the world. We’re actually, in May, going to Chris Ducker’s Tropical Think Tank event in the Philippines.
If you would have told me two years ago, “Hey, do you think you guys might be in the Philippines in a couple of years?” No, now way. Without online business, without doing what we did, there’s absolutely no way we would do that. I’m actually really nervous because I hate flying but Jocelyn’s making me fly for 14 hours in a plane so that’s a really long trip.
JOCELYN: Yeah, it should be interesting. If he makes it that long, we’ll be going to the Philippines in May.
SHANE: Right, if I don’t back out, which I’m not going to. I’m going to do it. But just being able to have those opportunities, like Jocelyn said, saving $3 of Starbucks is not going to give you opportunities like that. If you grind it out and if you sacrifice, you throw down and you just go all in and you say, “I’m going to do this. I’m going to work hard to make more money” and use online business as the vehicle to do that, then it just opens up a lot of opportunities for you.
We always tell people that we don’t sell the dream, we sell reality. These are all things that we’ve accomplished in our real life and online business is what made it possible that’s why we’re so passionate about telling other people about it. We did not do this in, you know, the, what do you call it, the make money online niche. When we sell to teachers, we sell to football coaches, we have other websites that sell to real niches that a lot of people can get into.
We actually just are doing our first course, our first Flip Your Life Mastermind Group right now and it’s amazing how different, we have 25 families in there creating their first digital products and it’s just shocking at the range of how many niches there are and how good those niche markets really were. Is it niche or niche? We say niche.
JOCELYN: We say niche here in Kentucky.
SHANE: Here in Kentucky, we say niche. I hear people say niche but we say niche. But like it’s amazing to see how many different ways these people are coming up with to make money online, to build an audience. So all of these goals that we’ve listed today, we just want to say, your goals are not out of reach. They may seem distant and it may seem very difficult right now, and you may be looking for different ways to try to make those goals a reality but there’s no better way that we have found that online business and being willing to sacrifice a little bit upfront so that you can do all these things that you want to do later.
JOCELYN: Yeah absolutely. I totally agree and it has been just an awesome journey. We’re just asking you to just think outside the box a little bit. Don’t always listen to what all the experts say. Shane and I always say we’re sort of the anti-experts. If we listen to what everybody else told us to do, then we wouldn’t be here today, but we do make this disclaimer. We’re not trying to say like go out there and live life with reckless abandonment, spend money like crazy. That’s not what we’re saying.
SHANE: Don’t get a credit card and put $20,000 into an online business tomorrow. That would probably not be the best thing to do.
JOCELYN: Yeah, that’s totally not what we’re saying and we’re not financially experts by any means. We’re just telling you what has worked for us and what is working now.
SHANE: Yeah. Don’t be afraid to think about your goals and dreams. Put them on paper and when you look at something like a new roof, it might cause $6,000-$10,000 to get a new roof for your house and it that looks so overwhelming and impossible but don’t think about the problem. Think about the solution. Think about how you can make that a reality and then just don’t be afraid to go out and do it, okay?
JOCELYN: And if you haven’t put your goals down on paper yet, we do have a free goal setting guide and we’ve mentioned it in another podcast before. We will put in the show notes for this one. This is podcast 11 so if you go to www.flippedlifestyle.com/podcast11, that’s just podcast11 and you will find our Goal Setting Guide and we encourage you to do this. I think that it is hard to figure out where you’re going. It’s hard to have a map to where you’re going if you don’t know where you’re going, so you need to know where you’re going.
SHANE: Yeah. We fill that out. I go back to it almost every day saying, “That is one of the most important things we did.” I didn’t want to do it. I thought it was kind of a, you know, what a very manly thing to do to sit and write down our dreams, our goals, and all that but Jocelyn got me to do it and I tell you what, we can trace back every success we’ve ever had, to sitting in that restaurant booth and putting our goals down on paper as a family. So it’s a really important thing to do and we want you to make sure that you can do that. So go check out our Goal Setting Guide at flippedlifestyle.com/podcast11.
Alright guys, those are a few goals that we have that we set at the beginning of our online journey and some of those things are coming to pass right now and we just really wanted to take this opportunity to share those with you to maybe inspire you to go set some goals for yourself. Next, we want to talk about our Can’t Miss Moments. Each week, we like to present a Can’t Miss Moment, something we got to experience because of our online business that we might have missed if we were still working at our old jobs or doing what we used to do. I think we have the same one this week, right Jocelyn?
JOCELYN: Yes. We had a great day, just a few days ago, our son had taco day and it was actually T day so my son is in kindergarten and so they are learning about the letter T. So the boys wore t-shirts and ties, and the girls wore tiaras and tutus. They got to go out and see a tractor and a taxi and…
SHANE: A tow truck. There was a tow truck out there too.
JOCELYN: And so they also had tacos that day. Shane and I got to go and volunteer. We put together almost 200 tacos for the kindergarten class.
SHANE: I was the official meat dispenser. I got the shells and I got to put the meat on and so Jocelyn was like the cheese person.
JOCELYN: We filled all those up. We did wash our hands first.
SHANE: We did. It was funny because I was apparently the only dude that ever volunteer at the school because we were in this like, I don’t know, it was like a little side room where we were making all these tacos for all the kindergarteners. Teachers would keep coming in to get something out of the refrigerator and they would say, “Good job, ladies. Way to go, girls.”
JOCELYN: Everybody is kind of like, “Oh.”
SHANE: And they look over to me and be like, “… and dude, and you sir.” But it was awesome because one of the teachers said to me, “We never get to see a dad come in and volunteer. It’s always moms.” I thought, “Yeah, that’s awesome.” I get to do that because Jocelyn and I took this chance to start our online business and we got to serve tacos and we saw Isaac and he got to give us a hug. We got to give little fist bumps to all his buddies that come over and play in our yard and stuff. It was just an awesome day of making tacos.
JOCELYN: And so for all the goals that we talked about before, I mean, this is what’s really important. This is really the reason that we do what we do, that and helping other families do the same.
SHANE: Yeah so paying off all that stuff is cool but man, there’s nothing better than going to see your son in the middle of your day and making some tacos for the kids.

Another great podcast Shane and Jocelyn. I too am a Dave Ramsey follower. We paid our house off last year and for the time being are completely debt free. Keep your eyes on the prize, it is worth it.
I have a question for you. Several years ago, I came to a crossroads, I was in a position to quit my job and grow my business. We had matched income with my job at the time. As I sat down, I calculated how much I would miss out on if I had quit my job and it came to about 2 million dollars over 20 years or so, not to mention pension, etc.
I switched my brain from quitting to staying, but using my side businesses as extra income to pay off debt, go on vacation, etc.
I admire that you guys had the courage to quit the rat race, I just couldn’t do it.
For you guys, was it a calculation of freedom and togetherness or was it more if you had more time to work on your business, you would be able to grow it faster? (more laser focus).

Thanks guys for being so transparent! I really enjoy hearing from a couple who is dealing with the same things we are going through.
Can’t wait to see the future unfold for you guys.
A side note. How’s this for irony. You mention never having been to Disney. Well, I have been about 10 times in the last 15 years with my former band. All of my trips WITHOUT my family. What’s better, having not gone or leaving your family at home, haha. Sometimes I wonder.
Glad that phase of life has past.

Loved this episode as I have some of the same goals, mainly being the goal to pay off my mortgage – the last of my consumer debt. Also, I connected with the idea of still taking time (and money) to enjoy life along the way. Being someone that has been so focused on saving as much as possible, we have recently indulged in finishing our basement and replacing our old, worn deck with a brick patio and fire pit – both things that our boys can enjoy for years with all of their friends. Yes our savings took a dip, but it was money well spent in my opinion.
