1. Create pinnable content.
Think about your audience as you write blog posts.
What are their problems?
How can you solve them?
Always lead with benefits – what will someone learn if they click your pin? Keep it short.
Usually, you only have a few seconds of someone’s attention before they decide to finish reading or hit the Back button.
Get to the point and make the content great.
2. Create a beautiful image with words.
You don’t have to be a graphic designer to create professional looking website art!
My favorite online tool is Canva.com.
It’s free if you use your own images, and their templates make it easy for anyone to make a pin-worthy picture.
You can find my short Canva tutorial here.
Go to Pinterest and check out some of the pins.
Which ones catch your eye?
For me, it’s an image with a short phrase on it.
It’s true that you can type a description for your pin, but remember that people can change your description when they re-pin it.
If you use words directly on the image, your message will stay consistent no matter who pins it.
3. Make the image easy to pin.
There are tons of Pinterest plugins out there, but my favorite one is called Pin Button Attraction.
It puts a small “Pin It” button on each picture on your site (unless you tell it not to).
The button makes it super easy and obvious that you’d like the content to be pinned!
4. Pin it to your own relevant Pinterest board and use a keyword-rich description.
Be sure to pin your own work. Some people miss this seemingly obvious step.
Pinterest is not just a place for pretty pictures – it’s also a search engine.
Give your pin a keyword rich description (don’t make it spammy), and pin it to a relevant board.
5. Frequently remind your audience to check out your Pinterest board & offer an incentive for pinning your content.
Don’t just passively assume that people will pin your work.
Ask them to do it!
There’s nothing wrong with saying things like, “If this post was helpful to you, pin it on Pinterest!”
Most people will be happy to do it if you’re providing them with consistent value.
Speaking of which, I’d love it if you would pin this post if it was helpful for you! 🙂

Thanks so much for this one! I found it very helpful, and as I develop more content for my teaching site, I’ll definitely implement this.
