This is part 2 of a 12 part speaker review of Chris Ducker’s Tropical Think Tank live event.
Today’s speaker review is Lewis Howes.
Lewis Howes’ podcast is called the School of Greatness and is a top podcast on iTunes.
Lewis Howes is well known for his football career, webinar strategies, and entrepreneurship articles.
Tropical Think Tank
Jocelyn and I recently spent a week in Cebu, Philippines with Chris Ducker at his Tropical Think Tank live event.
This is a boutique, small, intimate live event with high level speakers and participants.
Each week we will be sharing one thing we learned from each speaker (and sharing some can’t miss moments along the way from our trip to Asia).
Here is what we learned from closing keynote speaker, Lewis Howes.
Speaker 2 – Lewis Howes of LewisHowes.com
Lewis Howes gave an amazing and inspiring closing keynote presentation.
He literally had a few people in tears. Lewis has amazing charisma. I can see why his podcast, the School of Greatness is so popular.
I had heard of Lewis before arriving at TTT15, but had not listened to many of his shows.
I had watched a few of his webinars to deconstruct some of his sales strategies, but had not got into the School of Greatness.
After hearing him speak, that may have to change. Lewis is one of the most inspirational, motivational and exciting speakers I’ve had the pleasure of hearing at a live event. It was the PERFECT ending to an amazing week of speakers.
Lewis had awesome content in his presentation, but what I really learned from him came from hanging out with him during the event at social functions and in masterminds.
Here is one of the most well-known and successful celebrity entrepreneurs on the Internet. He has every reason to be aloof, arrogant, and think of himself as above almost everyone in the room.
But the exact opposite was true.
Lewis Howes was literally one of the most gracious, kind hearted, and nicest guys I’ve ever met. Absolutely 100% class act. He wants to help others, and has not lost track of what got him to where he is today.
If you ever get the chance to sit down and talk to Lewis Howes…do it.
It was good to see that success, wealth and fame doesn’t have to change people for the worse.
Lesson Learned: How to TRULY help people
I was lucky enough to mastermind with Lewis at TTT. I got to see a master communicator in action.
One of our goals for Flipped Lifestyle is to help 100o families build and grow a successful online business. Jocelyn and I get a lot of questions and give a lot of advice. Thanks to lewis, we will give better answers and advice going forward.
What I learned from Lewis is HOW to help people. How to figure out what people REALLY want, and how to help them FIND the answer (not just give them the advice that I think is right).
In the mastermind sessions, Lewis always showed genuine interest in the questioner’s needs, wants and dreams.
He started each conversation with “what do you want?” What a SIMPLE and POWERFUL question to begin a conversation about helping someone build and grow their online business.
He followed up with probing thoughtful questions. He never jumped in with early opinions. Like a detective he explored, probed, investigated. He didn’t just give someone the answer, even if he knew what he wanted to tell them to do.
He never said “this is what I would do so it must be right because it worked for me.”
Lewis helped people FIND the answer that was best for THEM. Huge lesson there for ANY niche.
The process he used almost always led the person to their answer. Then he clarified and told them how to make their goals a reality relying on his past experience. He pointed out problems they might encounter, and strategies on how to avoid them.
Amazing stuff.
He clearly had a systematic approach, in asking questions and really getting to the bottom of what people needed and what they wanted. I had never thought to do this before.
Long story short, Lewis Howes showed me a better way to help people. How to be a better listener, questioner and put MY notions of what people SHOULD do aside and how to work harder at finding out what the questioner really NEEDS (even if it’s not my idea, or how I would do it).
You could should apply this lesson to your niche as well.
Are you asking the right questions to your audience? Are you trying to figure out their needs, wants, dreams and desires? Or are you trying to force them to do things your way because “you know what’s best” for them?
Are you listening to your audience/market? If you sat down with your avatar right now, do you have a plan to find out what they really want. Are you helping your audience reach THEIR goals…or are you trying to get them to help YOU achieve YOURS?
The first will make you successful. The second is an eventual dead end.
Before meeting Lewis Howes, we were not listening as well as we should have. We were not asking the right questions. We do now. We have changed the way we do coaching, the way we organize content, and the way we communicate with our audience.
This is another HUGE benefit of live events like Tropical Think Tank. You are not just seeing successful people on stage. You get to see them in real life. You get to watch the speakers interact and be human. You pick up nuances of why they became successful, not just the mechanics of how they got to where they are now.
Lessons like that take you to the next level, more than any speech ever could. I have no doubt the lessons we learned from Lewis about how to TRULY help people will take our business to the next level, and help us reach our goal of helping 1000 families create an income online!
