Below is a question from our Flip Your Life community forums.
Today’s question comes from Brent S:
Which podcasting microphone and equipment do you guys recommend? What software do you guys use to record, host, and publish your podcast to iTunes? I want to get started but don’t know where to begin.
Answer:
Thanks for the question Brent! We use very simple equipment and have spent less than $300 on our entire set up!
MICROPHONE
We both use the Audio Technica ATR-2100 Microphone.
We have used them for years and will continue to do so. The sound quality is superb.

Worth every penny…don’t forget to order a pop filter:
SHOCK MOUNT
Get a scissor boom shock mount and you are good to go:
AUDIO INTERFACE
Only other thing I’d say you need is a Scarlett 2i2 for dual mic recording with guests in studio, and get a y-split cable for 2 on 1 calls over Skype (2 in your location, 1 there).
The Scarlett 2i2 also gives you more gain control to help with pops crackles and background noise. Super portable.
This is what we use:
Y-Split Cable (optional)
SOFTWARE
When recording solo shows, we use Garageband on the MACs and if on a PC you can use Audacity.
To record Skype calls on a PC you need a software called Pamela. To do it on a MAC you need one called Call Recorder by eCamm.

We get theme music and stuff from http://audiojungle.com
We make graphics for our show notes on Canva http://canva.com
We host on http://libsyn.com
And use the Bluebrry PowerPress plugin for delivery to iTunes and on our blog.
For webinars we use webinar jam and ever webinar.
All you need.

Same mic I have (thanks PF!) – what a great, clear sounding microphone! And Canva, among others, was such a great find thanks to y’all!
