Our quest today is Lizzie Shearing! Lizzie has been listening to the Flipped Lifestyle Podcast for years but she was scared to take the leap.
She finally got inspired to just launch her membership site – she launched on a pre-sale page. She posted it on Facebook and boosted it with some ads! She got almost 100 members overnight in her membership for special education teachers!
Today we’re going to talk about how Lizzie built those first 100 members, how she is serving those members, and how she is going to grow to 1,000 members!
Show Notes
Lizzie has been a teacher 11 years but also has a background in business development. She has always had a little hustle in her but decided to go into teaching because she has a passion for working with children, especially children with learning disabilities.
She just loves to help people – which is great! Because, the day after she finally decided to get down to business and create her site she got her first member! It gets better though, by the end of her first month she had 42 members!
What are your fears right now? (23:00)
Lizzie’s biggest fear right now is commitment and letting go of the other ideas she has and going full-force on her membership. She has people relying on her, giving her good feedback, and she doesn’t want to let them down.
She has been dreaming of this for years – that can be scary!
Growing as fast as Lizzie is can be scary too, that’s why we always recommend starting slow. The biggest thing Lizzie needs to do is hire someone to take certain things off her plate – that way she ca serve these members that way she wants to!
What is worrying you right now? (35:00)
Lizzie is struggling right now with having to deal with her first couple of cancellations.
Luckily, even though she hates it (as we all do), she has listened to us long enough to know that you don’t want those people in your membership anyways! And, when you stack your membership it makes sure that you keep churn down and it doesn’t affect your business when a few people leave!
Do promotions, create scarcity – this will keep people trickling in!
Do you have any follow-up questions? (1:00:00)
Lizzie is still filled with self-doubt. She needs to get out of that!
She fears that if she gets in a Q + A that there will be questions she doesn’t have the answers to – that’s okay! This is what community is for! You are human, you won’t have the answers to everything, but I’m sure someone in the community will – ask them!!
What are your next steps? (1:06:00)
We need Lizzie to get a public content strategy too, we need to get her out there a little bit! She is entertaining – something like a YouTube Channel would be great for her! You’ve got to grow your audience first, email list second, and retention last – that’s how you grow a brand!
